Stonewall Forest Academy is an intentionally small homeschool academy in Pleasant Shade inspired by Montessori and Charlotte Mason principles. Students learn in mixed-age groups through hands-on experiences, rich literature, nature exploration, and practical life skills.

We’ve experienced public school, private school, and homeschooling — and we’ve seen both the beauty and the struggles in each. Stonewall Forest Academy is our answer to the question: “How can we offer private school quality with homeschool flexibility?”
We’re a small, nonprofit homeschool academy— founded by parents who wanted something different. Our program combines Montessori independence, Charlotte Mason’s literature-rich approach, and daily time outdoors to create an educational experience that is high-quality, yet relaxed and flexible — perfect for families seeking the best of both worlds.
Here, learning unfolds through rich stories, meaningful work, outdoor exploration, and lasting friendships. Our days follow a gentle, creative rhythm in a supportive environment where families feel connected and children have room to grow and thrive.

Nature as the First Classroom
Daily outdoor adventures foster resilience, observation skills, and wonder.

We replace dry textbooks with rich literature, and historical tales encouraging a lifelong love of learning.

Students develop literacy, math, science, and entrepreneurial skills through real-world projects—like managing a farm stand, foraging, and crafting.

Stonewall Forest Academy is a licensed-exempt nonprofit tutorial program under Tennessee Code §71-3-503. We serve homeschool families across Smith County and the nearby Upper Cumberland. Our program blends Montessori methods, Charlotte Mason philosophy, and nature-based exploration to create a warm, child-led learning environment.
